About Catos
We started growing cut flowers commercially in 1986 as part of their sheep and beef cattle farm at Te Kuiti in the King Country. In 1988 we moved to the Waikato and continued our business of growing and exporting cut flowers to all parts of the globe.
This all changed in 2001 when we started to grow Garlic. We brought some excellent stock from a grower in Waihi and multiplied it up. Added to this were potatoes and other veges.
We were brought up through the generation when chemical sprays and fertilisers were used ad-lib on the pastures that fed our stock and the soil that grew our vegetables It was decided there had to be a better way. Having always made compost for the home garden this was a natural progression and a good place to start. The stimulation for this came from Richard attending various seminars on healthy soils promoting healthy crops.
We grow and sell garlic varieties directly to our customers at the Famers Market.
We are proudly chemical spray free and use top quality biological products to feed our soil and plants.
The food we consume needs to come from healthy soil, providing us the nutrients that nature truly intended us to eat.
